Polo GTI (2025) delayed windscreen washer?

Post by Electric Yoot »

Is it normal for the front windscreen washer to take 1-2 seconds before it kicks in? The rear is almost instant.

Yes, it’s normal. My 2020 GTI+ was the same (I no longer own the car).

There isn’t a non-return valve in tubing from the washer fluid bottle to the washer jets, so any unused washer fluid in the tubing all drains back into the washer fluid bottle after the windscreen washers have been used. When the windscreen washers are next used, it takes a second or two for the fluid to reach the washer jets.

I may be wrong but I believe it’s designed this way so that in sub-zero temperatures, washer fluid doesn’t freeze in the tubing. I can vaguely remember this being discussed on one of the Golf forums in the past as the same delay is also a feature of the Golf’s washer system,
