speaking as a current Bora driver I don't like it at all, the midriff around the rear doors and just behind looks too bloated, mine is pretty sveldt and looks sweet, imo
plus the thing that killed off the Jetta/Vento is the fact that they are seen as a Golf with a boot. I know thats what they are, but I love the front end of my Bora and think it looks far better than a Golf IV - the light clusters look lovely and I think it is fairly well distinguishable from the Golf as a separate car in its own right
I'm not a fan of the V as it is, and to make the Bora identical at the front end is disappointing...

good lord
its about as big as the passat used to be
comes with a 2.5 litre engine as the BASE model (jesus h christ, so much for being eco friendly VW, why are you bowing to bloody americans and their quest for needless horsepower in a daily commuter/family outing vehicle thats never going to exceed 90mph or 0-60 inside of the 12-second comfort zone? 2.5L as an executive highway blaster or sport model, not as a basic model FFS... stick a 1.6 FSi or TDi in there for crying out loud!* and make good on the speculation i've heard of you toying with hybrid TDis for your next generation)
mmm... smells of gas guzzling muscle car... the yanks are at it again... except we're already in the midst of a fuel crisis and they're just ignoring it
but they are, at least, stuffing the DSG in there, which should help matters in that department a little (from crappy 3 or 4 speed dumb-selecting slushbox to all digital 6 speed semi automatic, theres gotta be a fair bit of benefit... like 6th gear by 40mph when cruising
)
and.. more important than that.. WHEELS. ARE. TOO. SMALL.
THATS whats making it look like an accord! (or a prius, matrix, etc.)
and after all that, i STILL dont understand why they dont extend the boot seam up around the rear window - ford made a decent, highly accessible hatchback version of the sierra and mondeo with similar dimensions after all, and it might improve the looks too.
*guess that means the low-key VW Vortex campaign to get the polo and lupo across the atlantic is well and truly f***ed - after this they'll never accept something with a MAXIMUM engine size of 2.0...

Hmmm...
It feels as if VW have well and truely screwed this up. They're predicted to make a 1.2 *billion* euro loss in the American markets this year. They've been syaing this is to do with the roll out of the mkiv-based models and that the new Jetta (Bora) and GTI (Golf) will solve all their problems.
Not according to the reaction to those images.
Just look at the vortex community thread on it. The US enthusiasts *hate* it:
http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1691467
^^ 9 pages of hate right there.
That's fair enough. VW can afford to alienate its enthusiast sector, as they don't represent the mainstream, but this:
http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/ubb ... 8008667631
is deadly serious for VW. This is their core tech-savvy current generation of affluent Jetta buyers speaking. Even they dislike it (and the rep of VW), in fact I've been watching that market shift its focus to Scions and Hondas over the last couple of years. This really isn't looking good.
All imho, of course.
Deek.

i wouldnt say 9 pages of hate ---- 9 pages of hate, love, indifference and discussion
i like the pictures in that thread where someone's claiming they show that the new jetta does not look like a bmw 3 (5?) series, jag x type, saab, honda, toyota etc....... and seriously, i'm having trouble telling the difference between all of them. Bland as an unsalted rice sandwich on white bread with no spread, the whole freaking lot*
And when did something based on a golf get so... damn... BIG? just buy a golf estate already!
*suppose thats a good part of why i like the polo, and most of the cars im looking for as my next ride - stuff thats distinctive as well as good quality.
