HELP regarding AIRBAG RECALL

Post by Retali »

Hello guys,

I received the recall notice regarding the airbag.

Problem is , like everyone during those years, i have replaced the wheel with a scirocco one (or gti one , cant remember).

So i went to the dealership, they checked it and supposedly they wait answer from Germany regarding if they can replace it.

Problem is i do not trust them (Greece) . Because they gave me prematurely a paper that says things i do not understand but states "the owner changed the steering wheel"
not mentioning that the second steering wheel is still VW and not mentioning the part number of the scirocco stearing wheel or anything. It looks like i changed it with a momo wheel lol.

I am have a feeling that they are not in contact with Germany and they have already decided to deny me. So they just delay the answer in order to pretend Germany was late for reply.

I want to know if anyone of you had an experience in your countries dealerships and if anyone knows if they are obliged to replace the airbag.

I have already sent an email to VW.DE help but tbh i do not expect an answer regarding my problem.

If they deny me the replacement, i am thinking i should ask the mail exchange with Germany they supposedly had .

If you already have a safe and functional airbag (not a problematic Takata), why would you want a new airbag for a steering wheel you no longer have?
It makes no sense for either you or VW.
Or perhaps you'd prefer VW to lose money unnecessarily? And we leave this planet in an even worse state.

Dealerships are obligated to notify you and replace the airbag with an identical/problem-free one at no cost to you. They notify VW that you changed the steering wheel, so they can't perform the replacement... and I suppose they lose work/money from their best customer.

The only thing that really matters is that you pass the MOT/TUV/ITV/CT... 'KTEO' successfully.
What a 'private company' thinks about it should matter 'little to nothing' to you...🤭

The thing is i do not know if my airbag is fine or not, i do not have the list of part numbers that need recall.
I could still find the steering wheel part number if i remove it but i would not be able to check it.

"They notify VW that you changed the steering wheel, so they can't perform the replacement" i think that is where we at.

In any case i will w8.

I did not understand what you mean by the only thing that matters is the KTEO test.

What I gather from your words is that you replaced the factory standard steering wheel and airbag with a Sport GTI/BlueGT/Scirocco model, right?
Up to this point everyone is happy.

-To find out if the Sport steering wheel airbag is affected, you need its part number and can ask the AI (artificial intelligence).
If it is affected, YOU should buy a new one immediately.

-To find out if your 6R with the original steering wheel and airbag is affected by the recall, enter your VIN on the official VW website. This is obviously the case.

Now, in no case, including spring or summer imaginations, will VW replace the steering wheel airbag other than the original installed in the factory.
At this point, everyone will be happy except those who had the possibility of making money from the possible replacement of the original airbag.
We assume again that in the end, VW and the airbag manufacturer would have to bear all those replacement costs.

I can't believe you don't know what the VEHICLE TECHNICAL INSPECTION is in your country.
(it is possible that there are parallel universes, but it was not clear to me that it was possible for there to be so many) :)

My vin number is included in the recall thus i went.

I know what the KTEO is lol , but the KTEO does not care about such recalls, they dont check anything i believe.

I was hoping for them to replace the airbag of the new steering wheel yes. LOL
But i guess i will have to remove the negative terminal of my battery and check the airbag myself and hope for the
AI to give me a good answer lol.

edit: the airbag part number is 5K0880201T81U

At vehicle inspection centers, there are engineers who, for a fee, can certify your current airbag (GTI...) if you need to prove it is valid for road use... that's what I meant if you have problems obtaining registration permits or other matters.

Since there is currently a high number of completely erroneous prejudices, it is extraordinarily easy to manipulate unsuspecting or poorly trained minds (more than 90% of the world population... including me at the beginning of any story - during the first 2 or 3 seconds to try to be positive - ).

Ciclo thank you man, i searched online for my part number (it is 2013) and i did not find anything regarding the airbag recall.
Problem is i broke one small plastic hinge were a small coil spring sits (4 in total) so it has one less coil . I think
these coils are used for the horn to be functional It does not have to do with the functionality of the airbag.
The horn works great .

I decided not to move further regarding the airbag. If i die, i die (j/k)

Btw one week later and the dealership has not contacted yet to notify me whether i am eligible or not :D
