Hi All,
This is my first post on here - I have recently bought a Polo 1.2 match 2014 model and didn't think to check all the doors when i went to pick it up.
The passenger door is confusing me, I can unlock it using the fob and can hear it functioning, how ever the handle on the outside does not do anything.
I can open it from inside the vehicle, however this is a pain.
I have replaced the actuator, believing this would fix it, but it hasnt changed anything.
What confused me even more, was when i fitted the new part, the door functioned perfectly as it should, how ever when i then locked the vehicle and tried to open it, it wouldn't work again.
Has anybody else had this problem, or anybody able to shed any light on the issue?
Passenger door issue

Re: Passenger door issue
If it was the coding thing, surely "2 presses" of the key fob would unlock all doors, ie the "anti car jacking feature" where the first press only unlocks the driver's side front door.
Another way to check this could be to use the internal lock/unlock switch - pressing lock should lock all doors, pressing unlock should unlock all doors - if that is not the way that the door locks are behaving/reacting, then yes you have a door latch issue.

Vehicle is a 6R.ciclo wrote: Tue Jun 30, 2026 4:24 am Hi,
Perhaps the problem lies in the BCM coding.
Do you have any diagnostic tools?

If it's a 6R (not a 6C), perhaps that POLO had Byte0 Bit0 activated/enabled in the BCM.
In that case, you just need to deactivate/disable it.
Example with VCDS:

I have an OBD2 reader which is very basic, but haven't plugged it in to this vehicle

I have unlocked the car with somebody outside and door does not open from the outside, but will open from the inside.RUM4MO wrote: Tue Jun 30, 2026 11:12 am If it was the coding thing, surely "2 presses" of the key fob would unlock all doors, ie the "anti car jacking feature" where the first press only unlocks the driver's side front door.

But when i lock it from inside, i cannot open from the inside.
Its very confusing.

If your OBD2 diagnostic tool is very basic, you probably won't have access to unit coding -BCM, 09 Central Electric-, you'll likely only have access to diagnostics like checking DTCs.
You need something like VCDS, OBD11, VCP, 'etc' -multibrand tools-. Many enthusiasts and workshops have these tools. Even the place where you bought the Polo might offer this check for free... ?
From the comments provided, it definitely seems to be a coding issue! Check that Byte0 Bit0 in the BCM.
The good thing is to know that it is not a problem with the locks, because everything works as designed.
On the other hand, if your 6R does not have a factory anti-theft alarm, it is likely that it does not have the SAFE function -double click on the remote buttons-.
In any case, and whatever the problem, I completely agree with you, some manufacturers make very confusing vehicles, they're heartless.
Their next ambush will be not providing the owner's manual...
