EPC Warning Light

Hi folks,

Hope everyone is well.

Was heading to the gym earlier and about 5 mins into the drive (just about to merge onto the motorway) and the EPC warning light was on the dashboard. Noticed straight away I could hardly put my foot down to accelerate. Car didn't feel right, maybe limp mode?

Turned around and went home as didn't want to be stuck at the gym.

Engine off and on when back home and the warning has gone. Worried there is an issue somewhere, is it worth me picking up my own diagnostic kit or book it in with VW? Anyone else had the same issue with 2019 GTI+ (approx 45,000 miles).

Hi mate,

Sorry to read of your problems. If you try an internet search on ‘epc warning light’, the AI response lists the common causes. I’d expect fault codes to be stored so if you were to get a diagnostic kit, you could at least read the fault codes and do an internet search on the codes to establish what the fault is.

In your position, I’d probably go to an independent VW specialist to get the issue fixed if there’s a good one near you, rather than go to a VW dealer.

Good luck in getting it sorted. Please provide an update once you know what problem is and it’s been fixed.

Very lucky to have a family member who can take the car in for me and run a diagnostic test. Hopefully over the weekend can get some answers and fingers crossed for nothing serious, no other signs of the car acting up.

It could be due to carbon build up on the ports - happens to me every 50 000KM's or so and also brings up the EPC light and puts the car in limp mode. I can generally feel it coming on because the car "misfires" and acceleration is non existent. Hope you get it resolved without much fuss all the same.
