New Air Temperature Sensor

In my haynes manual it gives details of how to test the air temperature sensor. I've done the tests today and my air temperature sensor is faulty - The valve is stuck in the open position meaning that the flap from the exhaust manifold in the air horn is always fully open.

The book goes on to say that if the air temperature sensor is found to be defective then it should be replaced with a new one.

Any ideas as to where I can get one? I think the company that made them was called KNECHT and the part number is TB895/4. Got one from the scrappy but it's knackered too - valve stuck in the closed position.

to be honest the temp thing is a nice idea, but it doesnt work properly as you still suck in cold air in winter when you put your foot down so that can cause carb icing.

so on my mk2 I've blocked up the vacuum pipe (just before the air flap) as this disables the flap.

In summer (I havnt changed it yet) I just leave it like that so it draws in "cold" air.

In winter I've removed the snout on the end and then supplied the warm air feed to there, so its permanently warm.

So your setup is a bit like the old escort my Dad used to have where he'd have to adjust the air horn in Winter so it drew in warm air to de-ice the carb and in Summer he'd move it away so it drew in cold air only?

Am just looking at your signature and are they two different cars you have or the same car before and after? If it's the later then very impressive.

the left one is his GT he as just spent like 3 yrs rebuilding or something, in the middle is the GT when it was a bare stripped out shell and the right one is his mark 2 van run around that is as hard as nails!

no I've got a mk2 polo and a mk3 polo.

yeah I guess it is like the old escort where you had to turn the nozzle round for summer and winter settings

The middle picture threw me - That's what it was. Very impressive that the car on the left was actually the middle car. Very nice m8t. I do like the colour - is it the colour the car originally was?

yeah its the original colour, and its a green car, but appears blue in photos. the colour is "capri green metalic".

and the car changes color dependsing on how sunny it is, and in summer its more of a turquoise colour with parts that are in the shaddows appera blue.

This used to happen with my light blue GT. People kept referring to it as green (particularly hayesey ) when its blue damnit!

it does appear to be a decidedly borderline aqua in your sig....

peoples eyes do seem to react ever so slightly differently to subtle shades and all (personally i have one "red biased" and one "blue biased" eye - bizzare), and its a matter of how you got conditioned to green/blue crossover growing up
