apologies, you're right about the springs as a general rule - i guessed by cutting off the stiffer bit of a progressive spring i'd be making them a bit softer

to everyone else - if you look on the web, there are hundreds of articles on how to cut springs properly, and I even found commercial sites that TELL you to cut springs if you don't like the ride height....
It may be necessary to modify the springs to get the desired front end height. If the front end is too high it may be lowered by cutting off one-half of a coil.
for a ford mustang....

i think a few people have over exaggerated what i've done to these springs, i have over 100lb in the rear of the car and have NEVER 'bottomed out' going over bumps or dips in the road.

it's fair to point out about possible dangers to a car, but to assume soo much just on one sentence, is very amusing.

i thought that this site was about the love of the vw polo, but obviously i was totally wrong. just some sarcastic saps that think they're better than everyone else, that spoil it for so many.

oh well, i think i've shook the bee hive enough now. off to find another polo site as i wont be coming back here again..........

its ok to get it done professionally, because i know someone who needed longer than standard springs (for offroading competition on his 4x4) and went to a manufacturer of springs. they made the springs for him, same spring rate but much longer.

if it was cut short or lengthened then it is pretty dangerous
