well it'd be the whole country as big as i can get autoroute to draw it at my monitor's max rez (1280x1024) or as big as the board can tolerate (maybe closer to 720x640)..... might dial the detail right back if its possible (you could do that on the 286, but for some reason, i doubt you can any more, just as you can't "exclude road") and just add relevant bits and bobs as we go along.
Though i think it would probably have national borders, motorways and trunk A-roads, and at least london, brum, manc, scouse, geordie, glasgie, edbro, caerdydd, maes gybi (ok ok... holyhead) ... and a few others of comparable stature whose names currently escape me (leeds, sheffield, coventry...)
it'd only really need to be accurate to the nearest 10 miles anyway wouldnt it?
EDIT: a quite check with an example Firefox window reveals these tenuous results, at 1024x768

which is a bit of a pain, as the UK is obviously "taller" than it is wide, unless i undertake the radical step of making East (or West) the new North (and why not). Either that or have it lap between two screens. The north-south divide can then happily continue to exist as it has done since time immemorial.
