Think we're all talking about golfs.

As far as mk2's go, there were the following engines:
1.05 (same as polos)
1.3 (same as polos)
1.6
1.8 carb
1.8 8v gti
1.8 16v gti

I don't know about mk1's.. I assume tahrey's talking about a mk1 cabrio 900cc, although I didn't know there were any of those either..

the mk1 golfs had the following engines:

1093cc (as polo/derby)
1272cc (as polo/derby)
1457/ 1471cc
1588cc gti
1457 diesel
1781 gti

the convertible had the 1457/1471/1588 carb ,1781 carb and the 1781injection engine. only the polo mk1 had a 900cc.

well i've lost the link, but it was either a show-page or more likely a german ebay sale.....

they either called it an 86C or a mk2 --- i was surprised to see the 895 in one of those too! but it didnt look like a mk1 neither, and the engine certainly looked completely lost in the bay!

the smallest engine i can remember in the golf was a 1.1 .... either the 1098 or 1043, can't remember. but i do remember comments along the lines of it being slow as hell :)
as you'd expect with possibly as little as 40hp on tap even in a mk1/mk2 golf...
