Help!! how do i disconnect the standard tape deck fi my polo

hey i just bought my polo a few weeks back! i need to disconnect the standard tape deck to put in my cd player!! i know u need some kind of special tool. but i dont have it! were can i get one or were can i go to get it taken out!??

what year of polo do u have?

u can buy release keys from an audio shop.

its an r reg 1997.

You can get hold of release keys from Halfords if you're struggling for specialist places near by.

is it a sony one? hard plastic prongs will release the mechanism - there are two tiny slots at the top right and left edge of the unit - I usually use the end of large zip ties......

but it might not be a sony....

its a pioneer!, i got a set of removal keys the day fi halfords. but it still wont budge!! im getting well pissed wi it!! how the hell do u get it out?

hmmm, if the removal tools don't work (sometimes the release metal can get bent so you actually make things worse) then the only thing left is to get a small screwdriver and bend the housing metal locators flat so the whole lot pops out.

this takes a while, and no doubt you'll cut yourself, but it works. be careful not to damage the plastic surround too much.

brute force unfortunately :(

is there a removeable section of trim (ie: cubby hole or heater controls)above or below the head unit if there is you could force the head unit out from behind

it will be below the heater vents bt above the heater controls.... its quite a big surround...

ur talking bout a 6n2 which has a double DIN......



the_muff2004 has a 1997 R car and has a single DIN. (6n)
