Opening Door Woosh Noise

Post by sylonien »

LOL. :D

Right I always wondered "what the f**k?" is that noise when you jus unlocked your car like in the morning for the first time of the day. You open the driver door and there's like this electrical/winding/"eeeerrrrrrr" type noise coming underneath the car?

Great description! You know what I mean?

I don't have a clue what the hell it is.

Don't think it's anything bad - but I'm really curious! :P

like your car by the way, Gary. ;)

Hmm but if it's the fuel pump why does it need to do so? Especially when opening the door?

Hmm so we've got 2 possibilities:
  • central locking
    and
  • fuel pump.
Who's going to win? 8)

It's the fuel pump, it primes first time you unlock the car and open the door, with the expectation that the car is about to be started.

I get that in my POLO too. I thought it was the suspension adjusting. Because my brother in law has a Mercedes V-Class and it makes that sound when people jump in. But obviously its a MPC so therefore its not suspension on my POLO making that noise.

It makes sense on fuel pump, but I was driving a MK5 Golf 1.6 FSI courtesy car for the last two days while my baby was in for a Full 20,000 Service.

When I unlocked the door on the FSI, there was no whirring/buzzing noise. Just the sound of the locks.

Maybe because it is a FSI engine ans it not require for pumping fuel? I noticed the FSI engines, you need to ignite it for a big longer until the engine starts.

But I wonder if anyone else can give the exact answer to the main question??

The FSI was quite nice to drive btw..... Really powerful engine, 115PS i think... but too heavy so its not that fast.

Can't be though, 'cos Gary's got a FSI Polo too and he said it made the same sound on his Polo. :?

Oh and I've test driven the Golf5 1.6FSI and 2.0FSI too. :)

The FSI's do it to cos it does it on the Audi A3 2.0FSI at work but it isn't as noticeable as the valvers or diesels.
