gt downpipe

Post by lord_sharpy »

am i right that the cat on a gt is in the downpipe section of the exhaust? ive just been reading the euro car parts catalogue and they sell downpipes for a polo 1.3 non catalyst engine code 3f!?!? surely that is the gt engine? if i buy this non cat downpipe will it go on and still have a hole for the lambda probe? im a bit confused.
cheers

Hiya mate, it is the right downpipe but i'm not sure if it has the threaded hole for the lambda probe...if not drill a hole and weld a nut on the side.

Ok, just had a look on the ECP website, and from what I can make out, there's versions with and without the cat for both Mk2 and Mk3's with the 3F engine. Surely the Mk3 one would have the lambda probe mount, but is essentially a de-cat!! It only costs about 25 quid too!!

I'm very excited by this possibility!! Let me know how you get on!!

I'm expecting somebody to poo-poo the idea because hardhitter's selling them for 32 quid exchange!! Admittedly they are stainless, but one of the ECP ones was too, and I wouldn't have to do without my downpipe for a few days then either!!

I hear ya m8. No dissrespect to Mr.Hardhitter (sir), but surely most car forums are all about sharing knowledge to help us all make savings in the everyday running of our beloved icons :)

Could well be

Most Cat equiped cars have a high SS content in the exsaust (damm it this forum needs a spell check or I do) It's cos Catalytic Convertors aren't to keen on rusty debris hitting their delicate monalithic cores when hot.
