Poor running Polo MkIV

My 96 1,6 MkIV Runs poorly sometimes, especially when the weather is cold. The symptoms are; jerkyness on very small throttle openings, revs take along time to return to idle(happens in steps) and engine racing upto 2500 revs with out touching the throttle.

I've replaced the water temp sensor and cleaned the throttle body.
Does anyone have any suggestions as it driving me mad?

ah im havin this trouble too...cleaned throttle body n it has seemed to help a bit...think ecu needs some time to adjust itself tho

have u checked spark plugs?
