working switches!!
working switches!!
Hi guys, appologies for the crappy newbie question that no doubt has been asked somewhere before!
Im wanting to utilise the 'blank' switches already on the dash (the ones next to the hazards) for ICE - extra lighting etc
Is there a source for 'real' switches that i can put in place of the blanks so that i dont need to use out of place looking stuff?
does that make sense? it sounded ok in my head!
Also - the chrome dials on the GT and steering wheel a la' GT look cool - where could i source these?
Cheers, sorry to be a pain in the ass

You can get the tachorings from www.milotec.de.
I can send you some fitting instructions if you need them. The Skoda Fabia chaps tend to go for these.

It will only light up if there is something there to light it up with! i.e a light! And if its gonna be a blank then there wont be anything there to light up.
It would look stupid having loads of esp switches, if the worst came to the worst you could always paint them? No? Might look even more stupid though. Just a thought.
Could you maybe not even use the blank switch but turn it into a switch? Do you know what I mean?

Thought the lights were built in to switches etc, so if you were to supply some sort of power to the switch it's light up wouldn't it?Polo-03 wrote:It will only light up if there is something there to light it up with! i.e a light! switches
Im guessing that if they are an actual switch then they will be illuminated as are the other working switches - the blanks are just a popout cover - not an actual switch
so im guessing there isnt an actual non-allocated spare switch available then will just have to get eg an esp one and utilise that?? ok fair enough
checked out the milotec site for them chrome rings - they have s**t loads of 'extras' anyone know of a polo equivalent?

The ESP switch will only fit in one place anyway. The back of the switches are shaped to fit in specific holes.
You can cut the plastics bits off then they would fit in any of the blanks.
I had ESP and ASR in place of the blanks but they are intended to fit in the same place, second in from the left. I had to cut some of the backing on the ASR switch to get it to fit.
The Idea was to hook up the ASR switch so when I had my parcel shelf out for work I could switch over to the rear speakers instead of the 7x10's. Never got around to wiring it though.
Cant remember why I got the ESP one. Got them from Vag Parts anyway.

James.

Ah sidaba
Yeah your right just me being damn stupid again.
So what other switches can you get?
There are six spaces so there must be at least 5 switches
Say 2 spaces for heated seat
1 Space for heated window
1 Space for ESP
1 Space for ASR
That leaves one blank
May be they just made six blanks to make it look even

sorry guys I don't have a better pic. YOu can see my switch right next to the steeringwheel.
VW told me that they don't have a normal switch except for the ESP and rear window heating switch...
..So i made one myself
You can buy those empty ones(what you call blank switches) for almost nothing at the vw dealer. Go get some and get to a store where they sell stuff for do-it-yourself-electricians. You'll find a small switch which you can build in to one of those empty ones
