Then when going along in the rain noticed a slight drip of water run in from the kinda under the door level with the speaker. Didnt look much but this seems to be the culprite. Does this mean i need a new door seal? if so how much we looking at or could it be worse?

Had a nose at the door seal and everything looks ok.

A new door seal will cost you about 50 quid. I've heard of these seals failing, so it's not impossible.
If it's coming from under the speaker, it's more than likely it's the cause of faulty door foam. Under the door card, there's this foam like substance that shields the car from water getting in. Take off the card and have a look, could be damaged there.

will inspect foam thingy.
think i'll stick to putting a towel neatly under the door doing the trick so far.
