stupid stuff that people say

Post by Tahrey1043 »

i wouldnt normally link b3ta, but spotting this rang all too true with things that have issued from my nan and mother's mouth as well as a couple of patients at the hosp (staff being alarmingly switched-on)

i dont really want the hassle of being a b3ta member and i doubt all too many folk on here are, so if you have any stand-out ones (particularly bumping into folk you'd normally avoid, at xmas) please share :D

http://www.b3ta.com/questions/ignorance/

unfortunately the only example i can up with myself right now is dear sweet granny having trouble beleiving that anything can be better than a medicine made with "all natural ingredients" (what, like sand, and rattlesnake venom?)... hmm. Like the ibuprofen cream she uses being better than wintergreen? the paracetamol tablets she downed earlier and that little bottle of karvol vs whatever their herbal equivalents are?

or....
== you know that ABBA tape your mum gave me? (holding it)
---- yes?
== can you record your own, then? and how do you do it? (etc asking every little detail in one sentence, but getting bored of the reply in 2 seconds)
---- well, um yes we can, it probably came from her Proper Record (CD) of it after all. give me an hour and i can re-do it if it's worn out.
== are you sure? would you have to copy it from the one i've got already? can you do that?

tape in question is a boggo TDK FE90, whose plain white insert has ABBA scrawled on it in pencil by an obviously harrassed mumsy. hmm. no nan. sorry. only available in shops. on the moon. we cant do our own. they come looking like that. and once you've made one copy from the original record, thats yer lot. *sigh*

mind you it's to be expected. she now gives me a "food" parcel when i leave after visiting her, as if my nuclear family cant buy their own. this time: mini cheddars (blek), cup a soup extras (yay!), some horrible hamburger relish that i KNOW wont get touched and so went in the bin, a pyrex jug, and some black binliners (still wrapped). sweet and wonderful, but very very slowly losing it, and it was always a little lost in the first place.

Oh yeah. The friend of mine convinced that pretty much every problem with his computer could be traced to the monitor (including a corrupted windows install because of a dirty CD), and later on the video card or the Megs (RAM).
Which was all very puzzling as he had no trouble whipping the case open, installing connecting configuring and copying everything over on to a new hard disc, and putting a DVD drive in at the same time.

not to mention several folk convinced that the polo is costing me about 250 quid a month in repairs after it was parked up a couple days on the jack, that it would have trouble maintaining 70mph on the flat as "its only a 1300 isnt it?", and that NOT idling the engine at a longwinded red light somehow uses MORE petrol

This was said by a college at work (when completing her quartly review)

- "I hate these, we have to do them all the time"
- "But its only every 3 months"
- "no its not - there more frequent than that. there every quarter"
- "Check you calendar"
- "ohh"

"This is Preservation Month. I appreciate preservation. It's what you do when you run for president. You gotta preserve." - George W. Bush, speaking during "Perseverance Month" at Fairgrounds Elementary School in Nashua, New Hampshire, Jan. 28, 2000.

There are lots of George Dubya quotes knocking about but I think that one's ace 8)

Also: A positive attitude will not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort (Herm Albright)
