Help, I want my Christmas present to work!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by Bouff »

Hi,

I've removed my standard sony headunit and replaced it with a Panasonic CQ-C1300AN. This was the easy part, I just unplugged the sony and plugged the new unit in.

HOWEVER! When i turn the engine off, I lose all my radio settings and, when i turn it back on, it spits the cd out and I get the "Hello" message your supposed to get the first time you use it. :x

This didn't happen with the sony unit.

A friend says that I need to have a constant live feed, say from the clock.

Can anyone advise (hopefully with pictures/diagrams!) how I can do this.

Any help will be appreciated.

Cheers,

Bouff.

VW's seem to have reversed wiring connections to suit Sony units so when you fit others it's running on the wrong feeds

Basically you have to swap the permenant live and the switched live on the connection block

had same problem with the Kenwood I fitted

The Alpine I fitted needed the switched power wire to be cut and fed to the right input on the head unit. swapping the wires around didn't work for me, so beware! just have a look at what the installation instructions need, and then wire it up with what you have in the car. I forget which colour is switched and which is constant.

On the instruction leaflet, it says pin a4 is the battery, pin a5 is the motor antenna, a7 is the ign or acc and a8 is the ground.

Any ideas which ones to switch around?

I think its pins a4 and a7 that need to be swapped, it should tell you in the instruction book for you're new head unit how to wire it for VW.

Harness adapter all bought from Halfords and now works perfectly.

Now I just have to choose which "choons" to go in the motor!

Thanks to everyone who helped.
