Gear gaiter surround

Post by DelG40 »

Anyone ever fitted one of these to their Polo?

If so, or maybe if not, what the hell are the screw holes for? Do you have to screw it in to the center console around the gear shift hole?

hey
I've just bought one of those from e-bay. If its the JOM item, then yes you have to screw it into the console. I'm not fiting mine yet tho as I am waitin for a new gear gaiter as well

Ah cool. I MIGHT get one. I reckon some nice chromed screw heads would do the job. I've had a new gear gaiter in for ages now. Original replacement from a Volks Center near me - looks top boy.

Hmm.. where from, and how much? Wonder if it'd fit a mk2.. wonder if it'd suit a mk2.. I'll have to think about that one :) One of those things that could either look perfect or look garish, dunno which..

I'm guessing the idea is you fit nice screws.

I would suggest some nice chrome allen head screws if you can get them!! :?

That's if it doesn't come with some already!!

Had a thought about this and I think probably the idea is that you screw it into the gater base plate rather than the centre console.. the gater is attached to a plastic hoop the same shape as that surround which just unclips from the centre console, it would make sense for it to attach to that...
I'm coming round to the idea that that'd look pretty sweet now :D We shall see..

But then you have 10 holes around the gaiter... and it doesn't say anywhere that there are clips to hold the gaiter in like the original design does.
