W8 Light

Post by Pedro_Hilario »

Hi,

I finally decided to cut through my roof lining and install a W8 Passat Dome Light
At first i wasn't going to connect the intensity ambience lighting
wire since I never use the dimmer BUT it seems that the red leds only work if this wire is connected ( correct me if I'm wrong)
In the DIY Speedlaw advises to connect it to the ilumination wire coming out of the ISO radio. But my radio is not connected to the dimmer of the car. If i connect the 4 pin of the W8 with the wire coming out of the radio will that work? I don't think so...
So where can i connect the W8 ? To car's light intensity control dial? There should be a pink wire right coming out of it if i pry it open, right? Or is there another place in the car where i can find this wire?

Thanks,

Pedro

Yep, the regular way to connect it is directly to the dimmer control. Don't know which color the correct wire has, but I do know that plugging it in the radio directly will not work.

Good luck!

I removed the dimmer control panel ( with the headlight switch and the dimmer) and there is no plug behind the dimmer, only the headlight switch has a plug with several diferent wires. Now the question is, which one to connect with the W8? I couldn't see if any of them was pink, it was getting dark.
Any clues?

I might have a idea on how to work around this but i need to know one thing. The red leds are ALWAYS on, or only with the key on the ignition or when we turn on the road lights? So that i know how to connect them.

Thanks Speedlaw, that info was all I needed.

I just connect the leds (1º wire) with the instrument panel lights. So when i turn on any of the lights it automatically turns on the red leds. ( I can even adjust the brightness, cool!)

DONE IT! Another W8 modder cruising around
