EBC Brakes

Post by Tony B »

Kind of worried so just wanted some opinions.....Went ahead and bought some greenstuff pads all round and some Turbo Groove discs - then had a look on the site for some opinions on how they were.....Doesn't sound great (also the discs are gold which i'm not too keen on?).

- Hopefully someone out there has something good to say about them???

I'm about to get an all round set of greenstuff pads, as i've heard good stories about them.

Then it'll be Brembo Max Grooved discs, braided hoses and 5.1 fluid.

Need to improve the crappy standard system.

I've used the EBC pads and grooved discs on the rear of my Corrado for a couple of years and have had no problems. I didn't really notice a dramatic improvment in braking performance, although the greenstuff pads do not make such a mess of your alloys :) The zimmerman/pagid pads from GS&F seem to be a cost effective improvement. Not sure if they are available for the GTI tho'.

update

Post by Tony B »

Well, if anyones interested - greenstuff pads fitted all round and EBC turbo groove discs on the front........

Not bad actually - has definately reduced any fade that was there although not dramatically better at braking (a bit though). The discs look alright too as the bronze colour that i wasn't keen on has worn off anyway.

One major positive is that there's harldy any brake dust coming off them onto the alloys - winner!

So overall - not a massive improvement but an ok upgrade. Expect the discs will be better with better pads on the front though.
