Total Newbie. Please be nice!

Post by david_129 »

Hi guys, as i have stated i'm a total newbie here and would like some friendly advice if possible.

I have a Polo W reg .. i think thats a mk4 6n2?? or a mk5?? could someone clarify this for me.

it's a 1.4 16v and i'm after an induction kit of some design. i'm aware that this will make no differeence to the power but would like one none-the-less. i was thinking k&n? anyone have any better ideas?

last thing i would like help with is finding a place which will sell me a nice aftermarket grill. very subtle is what i want...but i am finding it a nightmare finding online polo aftermarket parts stores...help would be very much appreciated!

Thanks again.

Its a MKV 6n2 (the 2 in the 6n2 - indicating it's a facelifted MKIV)

MKIV is 6n

It was supposed to be 30-40mm but it turned out to be 45-50

It's fine on std shocks tho...... but any lower and I think I'd be in trouble

Hi chap,

With the grille you have a few options, but two of them stand out head-and-shoulders above the others

1. You could source a GTi-spec grille, and if you like, also fit a black front VW badge in place of the chrome item. The original grille looks like this:

2. The other option is a Kamei grille, you can get one from the likes of Car Styling Direct, who seem to be best on price at the moment, go to http://www.carstylingdirect.com/acatalo ... illes.html and it's the third option in the list. Looks like this:

Sorry the pics are a bit random but I'm at work and it was a quick search! Should get you started on some ideas for the front end anyways... HTH.

wow u guys are v helpful! cheers!

as for the grill mate. i don't understand soemthing. some of the bonnets have an indentationw here the original badge would sit...like a recess...is this on all polos 6n2?? would i need to get a grill which would cater for this gap?

fortunately i have a black car so i'm sure it wouldn't look to bad if it wasn't painted....

but in the pics u have above the kamei grill pic ...there seems to be no recess on the bonnet at all?? as for getting the gti, i'm not keen on badging it up as something it's not despite really liking the grill itself. thanks again lads u been gr8 :)

looks like 60mm drop with aftermarket shocks then!?

Regarding the GTi grille, you can remove the (stuck-on) GTi lettering if you want :) and the recess left by the VW badge is solved by the inclusion of a filler in the kamei frille kit, or any other Polo grille kit - like you say, you can then paint and fit the supplied extra bit to fill the gap. The pic of the debadged grille, I think that Polo had a badboy bonnet extension fashioned which sits slightly lower down over the lights, like having eyebrows fitted.

Good luck with the suspension mods, -60mm on standard shocks should be OK for now but you might want to upgrade to matched uprated shocks or a full-on coilover kit if the ride becomes too harsh? Koni shocks and Eibach springs are supposed to be an excellent combo if you have the cash, I've heard. Me personally, I'm going for a subtle -35mm drop on Eibachs some time soon on my GTi!

Cheers

thanks again si!

loving the GTi's. lovely motors. i have a clio too and dropped that 40mm but its a totally different style, i.e. big 17's and kit etc. with this i want something v suble, kinda euro style like in the pic u posted with the ronal tubos  so i am thinking something v low on small wheels...thought 60mm is a good starrt without getting expensive coilovers.

need another bit of help thugh... sorry...all the kits i can find are 30m drops... can't find any for more than that. any ideaS?

think i like the kamei kit....£90 though from awesome gti! seems well steep!

lowering

Post by jon_poloV »

love that blck polo on ronal turbos, lowerd 80mm on coil overs wasnt it?
you can only get spring and shocks as low as 40mm at mo if you use just uprated springs you can get 50mm eibech ones. any lower than 50mm you need coilovers!
i think we should all try and get a massive group buy on coilovers for the mk5.
