How low can you go?

Post by MK5POLO_2004 »

Im gettin 15's and need to drop the polo as low as possible.

Its a mk5 2000 x reg 1.0 had a look about and the lowest ive found is spax rsx and thats only 75mm which isnt low enough. Any ideas would be great.

Cheers

15s on -120mm have to be sensible offset and width

Spacers won't help if the wheels are too far out - ie very low offset

45 and 43 are also OK for std width rims and tyres - after that it all depends what rim width and tyres you are gonna fit - For instance - 10 inch wide rims and slammed to the deck it's not gonna matter what offset on the wheels you get are - it'll rub everywhere all the time. IMHO

Offset should only be quoted with reference to std width wheels as the wdth if the rim has an effect on the clearances at each side

Offset is after all only the numerical dimension indicating how far the mounting face is from the centre line of the wheel

its rather a tricky subject if your like me, and you dont really know what your talking about!
bstard, what offsets (et) can i get away with on a mk5 lowered 75mm? as im looking for a new set of deep dish alloys for the summer months, also what tyre size do you recommend?
cheers

There are some good websites which explain it all quite well..

I can't do it that way - sorry - what I can do is if you tell me your

- current clearances (inside tyre edge to closest item - likely to be the coilover)
- current wheel/tyre clearnance in the arch
- current offset
- Current wheel size
- Current tyre size

I can then tell you how wide you can go rim width and tyre size - ideal offset to maximise the clearances etc

Trouble is ideal offset is often not made so it all gets tricky but at least we can get somewhere close

Does that help any?

My 6n went down 90mm when I compared it to a standard car (same year, same model, both on std 13" wheels and tyres). I put 7x15 et35 195/45/15s on it and had no clearance probs.

I compared the height to a standard car as it was supposed to go down 60mm and I thought it looked a bit lower than that  :P However, I've got coilovers for it now and will experiment with running it lower but those wheels and tyres won't have clearance so I'm going to run it on factory Solitudes, 6x15 et43 and use 175/55/15s (to help fuel consumption as well :D ). The arches could be rolled and that may give enough clearance for the current wheels and tyres but, tbh, I can't be arsed
