Rubber pipe on airbox??
does any1 happen 2 know what the rubber pipe is which is at the bottom on the left handside of the standard airbox. I am fitting a universal induction kit and want to know where this pipe and the other flexipipe leading to the intake can be mounted to. the air filters on the throttle body part, and only has the connection to mount it on there. What do i do with the other pipes?? cheers

yes it is the oil breather. If you buy a kit made for the polo, like a K&N 57i, you would have a special hole where to insert the pipe of the oil breather.
You can do a simple mod, or drill the new cone filter at the bottom and buy a nipple to be inserted between the oil breather pipe and in the filter, or othewise, as you said, buy an oil breather filter
cheers

Hi thanks for that, that helped me a lot. Now that i have found out where the oil breather goes, this only leaves one more flexipipe to be connected. This is connected at the top of the air box on the right and is made from plastic. I heard that you can place the end which connected on the airbox in the hole in the middle of my air filter. I have attached the link of a similar universal air filter so that you know which hole im talking about.

its on the top. Is this true????? does any1 know???????? i have seen some polos which have this pipe unconnected but placed near the air filter. What does this pipe do???????????? cheers .....just need to know this and then i can complete the installation of my universal induction kit. Finally. thanks

there is also a pipe on the left hand side of the airbox, connected to the same side where the oil breather is. on top of it. according to the pictures of your car on your signature thing, your engine bay shows the pipe resting next to your air filter. i think this is the same as what i mean. What is that pipe?? can it plug into the middle of my air filter as shown in the previous link? cheers m8 for ure help
You mean the one marked in red here?

If yes, that pipe has to job to collect cool air from outside and bring it near the filter. The engine runs better with cool air instead of hot air. Without that pipe, the engine will "breadth" warm air from the engine bay.
Now if you want to put that pipe at the top of your filter, that has some advantages and disadvantages.
The first disadvantage is that if you get your cool air from a low point like I do, when it rains, water droplets can be sucked in by the filter, and if that happens, your car will stop. Mine is about 10cm away, and in rainy days, I have to put a piece of cloth inside the pipe to stop water droplets entering. Once my car stopped because of that, so be carefull.
The majar advantage would of course then be that you get more cold air that if you put that pipe a little bit far away.
BTW that pipe is not standard in any polo, that came with the induction kit I bought, it is a K&N 57i. You can easily make one, it is a piece of flexible tubing, not so expensive to buy I think.
Cheers and good luck

Below is a picture identical to my engine bay. i mean the pipe arrowed red.

arrows kinda faint. but its connected between the intake on the left and the airbox on the left top as shown. im going to leave the exhaust manifold pipe on and so i will leave that neat intake thing on the left near the headlight. Therefore i need to know what that pipe does as it will be bare. I think you pipe is different as one end is connected to the bumper and the other near the air filter? am i correct?? or is it the same pipe and does the same thing.

I see now what you mean. That pipe near the headlight is there so that the airbox gets cool air from the side of the engine bay not hot air from the engine bay itself. It does nothing special. I can see nothing wrong if you connect it to the top of your filter.
The pipe that I showed you is connected to the bumper as you said.

thanks balinju for all your help!
Well if both of these pipes have the same purpose, i do not really need to connect one like yours on the bumper do i??? I can just use this existing one??? will it provide enough cool air?? as what will happen if i dont use no air cooling thing at all. Also my filter is quite big 16cm wide and high
. so i will need 2 place it by using a pipe like i have seen some people do to locate it somewhere where there is more room in the engine bay. What sort of pipe do i go for?? i want something stiff if possible as i dont have any brackets which would hold the air filter tightly, as it is intended to mount straight on throttle body. im not sure though i may get away with it,,but not if im going to place that pipe at the top...it will look wierd as well. any ideas??

i think the best thing to do if you are fitting an air filter is to disconect the pipe to the manifold and to the left near the head light then place the air filter down near the head light like this

to be honest its not a good idea to fit an air filter cos first it doesnt increase the horse power and it will just bring more trouble than its worth. plus the car needs hot air and cold air blowing through it thats why there is a pip to the maifold. if you want it for noise put a decent backbox on it. just my opinion

i was considering to fit it this way. As it still leaves the near little airbox and airfilter in place. however whats the benefit of fitting it like this??? im after the noise and bhp. However noise slightly more. I heard my filter makes a decent noise and does increase bhp. Also do i block the manifold connection or is it fine this way???

THE Airbox already has a air filter init, plus uadd another one? why do yuo need two, wont the decrease bhp more??. thats wierd. MPPOLO does it change the sound of your engine at all by the way u have fitted it?? im confused on which is the best way....any ideas any1
I was going to:
remove and fit the new air filter either striaght on the throttle body or on a pipe directly to throttle body if bonnet doesnt close.
fit a breather to the breather pipe and place near air filter
leave the original intake connection near the headlight, and tie the disconnected end of the original pipe (on the left of the original airbox) and place it about 10cm away from the air filter. Will this be okay??
Basically im removing the airbox and replacing it with a seperate cone filter and breather . the rest of the pipes left as they are originally including the exhaust manifold.
will fitting it thisway be likely to improve horsepower and make a better sound??
I Got my universal induction kit in the post today. But it proper smells either its the rubber or like exhaust fumes. I got it off ebay for £8.00 and the guy said its new. it looks new, however there is a terrible smell as i said, is this normal with air filters or something, some chemical or something. As the guy said its new, and looks new, but he might have used it. Any ideas??
