my engine gets the vote for the worst design ever

i am currently having some severe engine problems that throw an oxygen sensor code but not wanting to relace it as i dont think its the problem im choosing to try and think of other causes;
last night i decided to remove the rocker cover to see if i have a sticking cam or damaged cam lobe but it turns out that vw decided to to follow conventiopnal design (cover to hold in the oil and then seperate units to hold the cam in place) so that as you remove the cover you feel the cam coming straight up at you as it is retained by the cover that usually only holds the oil in

so tonight i decided to take a look at the injectors to see if i had a clogged one, so , following standard procedure, i removed the fuel rail as best i could and pulled on it which usually allows acvcess to the nuts holding the injectors in, guess what the injectors are held in by 2 5mm allen bolts and a little friction (not 2 each its 2 for the lot)
at this rate im worried that if i ever want to drop the crank ill have to turn on the headlights or somthing equally as daft

How much will that oxy sensor set you back? Could be a lucky bet.

ill get a definate price later as im in the middle of setting up my pc now after moving to a bigger desk but iirc its the fat end of 140 quid
but im almost certin that thats not it as the engine is missing and hessitating for the first minute or so so it looks like either a dying throttle body (£450) or one half of the coolant sensor

The oxy isn't too expensive, but given the symptoms (hesitating in the first minute, I assume after you've started it) it's not exactly the first place I'd think of.

OTOH, if the ECU says it's the sensor... May as well try.

well it may have just got a touch more complicaed
i took of my power system this afternoon and it turns out that it was making the problem worse. so since it was off i decided to go to vw ad see what their little machine could find
here are the codes that it racked up in 2 hours since the reset i did

16518 P0134 O2 Sensor Circ.,Bank1-Sensor1 No Activity Detected

16684 P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

16687 P0303 Cyl.3 Misfire Detected

18048 P1640 Internal Contr.Module (EEPROM) Error
i think this might be a dying ecu

18010 P1602 Power Supply (B+) Terminal 30 Low Voltage

so as i said the plot thickens it looks like thatll be an o2 sensor then replace another plug wire (for the second time) then check for cracks on the coil pack and then the ecu yay

well i was expecing a bill of about 500 quid for an ecu but i just checked and mine is 152 quid and the lamba sensor is £115
well dont i have the cheapest ecu ever oh i hope those prics are right

Why the new lambda then? And are you getting the oxy sensor?

lambda is actually a mahamaical term that has been adopted for the O2 sensor due to the fact that is uses logarithems to decifer the true value of the signal
ive decided that at the price there i might as well replace both because even though its not cheap they do eventually go and it might be bad already, the reason why i say it MIGHT already be bad is that since theres an intenal ecu fault for all i know it could be the area that senses the lamba value so id rather have a spare o2 sensor than have to wait another few days for oen on order as all the time that im running like this the front cat is getting drowned in fuel
