well this morning i had 80mph in 3rd out of the 'tray on a deadflat/straight country road i can normally only make 75 before braking for junction ....... reckon the ice probably had "something" to do with it

(really i was only doing about 35, and after that little demo and the snaking that resulted - plus a brake test where i lost about 2mph in 10 seconds - i eased off even further)
gearchange on ice keeping the wheels spinning perfectly possible (best if you're quick - got your quick-shift technique down yet?) but drag still does start having an effect at high speeds! doubt i would have been able to sustain the burnout into 4th despite it being the quickest change of the lot...
and even if I HAD found the bottle to wind it up to NSL (and then hang the brakes out for a protracted, pant filling approach to that t-junction), it still wouldnt be as scary as riding in the maternal passenger seat.
(I too drive like a grandad in comparison to normal when she's in the car, but any time i get a stupid comment "you know your lights are on?" "what gear are you in" "dont go so fast!" (wtf..) i dial up a notch closer to my lone / mates-only level until the fear kicks in enough that she loses the power of speech .. wonder if it works the other way round as well, and she becomes crap because someone else is in the car "watching"?)

well i never did manage to get even a decipherable let alone clear shot of the dash at anything over 99.5 indicated mph (lucky me if any copper scans my hard disc i guess) but here's an artists impression - artist fresh back from covering a court case
(thats the shorter occasion, not the one where it held onto 105-106 for grim death over at least a mile....... before i had the revs)
