Brake light bulbs keep blowing????

Anyone had this problem?

my back passenger side brake light keeps blowing, I have put 3 new ones in during the last 12 days!!?? They are crappy universal bulbs from halfords, could this be the problem? Do VW have standard bulbs?

A mate of mine has this problem on his MK4 Golf. He found using VW bulbs has stopped the problem,he tried halfords ones but they kept blowing. VW ones are made by bosch so maybe thats the difference!

i was thinking it was more the bulb itself, i suppose you get what you pay for at the end of the day, right im off bosch bulb hunting now!

could try led bulbs there not meant to blow at all if im correct???

LED bulbs? are they alot more expensive? easy to fit?

don't see why not, they're legal as 3rd brake lights.

...unless they're so bright they burn your retinas out...

Well i hope they are legal, just got them delivered... hows that for service!

i would think that extra bright brake lights aint a bad thing!

going to chuck them in later.... will let you know how i get on!
