Side Light Bulbs

Anyone know how to change the side light bulbs on MkV...

Headlights OK, driving lights OK, Fog loghts OK...side lights...bit of a bugger.

Incidentally, fitted those new Philips 4000K blue vision bulbs - fantastic - as close as dammit to real HID and real gleaming white light with a hint of blue

Shame about the side lights though - makes them look gold !!

or in other words if you have hid`s then you need to drop the bumper

Normal...2000, X reg 1.4...just bought it for the missus - must say, I think this version is nicest shape of all flavours...

had a Mkiv before that, dealer gave me a grand more than the book said for trade in...I digress.

There are those, plastic covers, which are a bit awkward to handle - especially off side one. Got the driving lights and dipped lights changed with a few scrapped knuckles...but the side lights don't want to seem to pull out from the back.

There seems to be metal clips keeping the front clear lenses in place...but don't want to touch until someone has some idea - garage will charge Â£50 just for doing it....hmmm

the bulbs come out from the back and just keep pulling harder they will come out
you will prolly find the lhs easier if you remove the indicator because then you can see where the clips go and then if you need more room then move the battery
oh and theres a trick to the indicator so dont just try and yank it out

You can get The Philips Blue Vision sidelight which are whiter than the standard sidelights. These are available from Powerbulbs.

I have some PIAA White/White LED sidelights which alot better. They have the same colour as xenons so they are extra white, they are about Â£20 but they should last almost forever.

im sorry to say it but i fitten hid`s the other day and even thou the phillips bulbs are about a million times better they arnt even close to hid`s
ps can i try and guess the cars from the light pics please

Very true Polo2K, Blue Visions are better but not amazing like xenons.

Sorry but the first is the same car as the last, a Superchaged Saxo VTR generating 215BHP!!!

If you were to put xenons, would you keep the standard light clusters or would you go for the GTi with lens?

Just out of interest how much are the GTi clusters?

Anyway, the Vision plus bulbs (I have sidelights and full beam to compliment my HID's) are a lot whiter than OEM, but still look a little yellow next to the HID's if you look straight at them, however when I switch on my full beams, from inside the car, the light looks to be a very similar temperature to my HID's. I'm very impressed with that.

HID's rule, but if you can't afford them, Blue Vision's are a very worthwhile upgrade.

ok you keep your original light housings and the kits are simply plug and play i will be doing a full write up in a day or two on the fitting when i have sorted out a few little niggles
for the mk5 the headlight is an H7 bulb and the kit from martyn is Â£327
and the light is indescribable
here is a little comparison between the phillips blue vision bulbs and the hid`s

Phillips blue vision bulb on its own (1 head light)

this is a single hid please look on the left and look at the tree then look at the above photo where you cant even see the tree!

and here the hid is on the left with a phillips bluie vision bulb on the right, the hid is very blue in this pic so depending on further testing the kits may be supplies with a different bulb that is about the same power but less blue

i was woried that with the extra light output that the bulb might produce more heat which could be an issue for the plastic lenses on the mk5 but i did a temperature test and it turns out that the hid actually runs slightly cooler even though it puts out a LOt more light please see this thread (http://www.tigerstyle.co.uk/poloforum/v ... .php?t=919) for new opinions and other deatails

What temperature light have you got? 7000K they look very blue compared with standard xenons 5000k-6000k

mine are currently 8000k but martyn at vag parts can supply any buld required although we are currently testing to see which is the most appropriate

Josh, go for the Piaa White-White LED's they are ideal for your need!!!!!
