Rattling/whistle noise!!!!!!!

My 1.6cl has just started making a noise that can only be described as a rattling sound. Popped the bonnet and it seems to be coming from the fan belt area. It's hardly noticable when at idle but gets loud when i put my foot down on the accelerater, mainly between 2-3000rpm. It's somtimes accompanied by a whirling noise.

I've just had problems with my gearbox. anything to do with that?

or fan/cambelt?

any suggestions?
