Stalling Problems...possible temp sensor?

Having a bit of a crisis with the new polo I bought, well I say new its far from it, but new to me

1990 Polo 1.3CL mk3. Its starts and runs ok but as soon as it hit running temperature it stalls and won't start again until about 30 minutes later when the engine is cooled down.

I got a feeling it could be the temperature sensor telling the ECU strange things but im not too knowledgable in this area so any help would be greatly appritiated

Just go ahead and replace the coolant temperature sender. It costs around Â£6 and you'll need to replace it sometime anyway. It might cure your problem, it might not - but it'll sure as hell cure any problems related it to it now or that you might get later!

i had a problem similar. it was when i had the induction kit on with no hot air feed, the engine would idle too low and cut out, it would be a sod to get going again!

maybe its coming down to idle too early and the engine hasn't warmed up fully yet!

hope someone can give you a bit more of a technical explanation of how to fix it soon!

Does anyone know the part number for this because i think i will change it anyway, as you said Del i may as well

sorry to hi-jack this thread,

but Doug and dan, did you ever get it to run with the induction kit? loads peeps have said its fine to remove the hot air feed but I ve got idling probs as well.

has anyone left the hot feed stuff on and just replaced the air box with the cone? not sure if this would work?

hey there

i've found that when i ran the induction kit without a hot air feed in the cold, it had idle problems. so i put the hot air feed pipe back on and the end points towards the induction kit! this way the induction kit is getting hot air! it now runs fine!

when the weather warms up it might be possible to take the hot air feed back off again!
