And since we're speaking of the VW Fox...

Post by Babe RuthLess »

Here's the new "CrossFox", a 5-door Fox on stilts. VW has raised the suspensions by about 40mm and used larger tyres to increase ground clearance, added some plastic trim to the wheel arches, some roofbars and a swivelling stand for the spare tyre, recalibrated the ABS and called this a Ford EcoSport beater.

Hmm... Not quite. The Ford is a proper small 4x4, in the sense that it's actually got all-wheel-drive.

Still, for those who enjoyed the "new" VW, here's the (Cross)Fox:

So it's mostly a cosmetic thing to throw the VW brand in a market where Ford has been totally alone (and very successful) in Brazil with the EcoSport (the Japanese imports cost about 2 to 2.5x the price of the Ford).

I'm not so sure all those appendices (particularly the bull bar) will meet favour with European regulators though.

Urgh. I really hate this trend of dressing up small cars to look like serious mud pluggers whilst giving them absolutely no practical advantages whatsoever.. that thing just makes me think of the rover streetwise - a 25 with some ugly ABS strapped to the bumpers pretending to have any kind of off road capability at all
