I havent driven it yet. Took the old man with me and bowed to his superior knowledge and let him take the test drive :D

The thing I'm most looking forward to is electric windows! Finally moved into the late 20th Century with not having to wind them myself

Hehe electric windows, electric sunroof (not fitted to all cars mind you), electric and heated mirrors... you'll not know where to start! Make sure all the toys work though

Oh and remember to post pics in member's rides when you pick her up! 8)

Good choice, what colour you went for.

What plans you got for it.

It's Flash red, same as my 1.0E :D None of my mates are going to realised I've changed!

In terms of mods, nothing planned as such yet. Apart from I'll probably but my OZ Racing Supeleggeras on for now, cos the BBS rims were, like I expected, quite corroded. Shame they were as bad as they were, cos the car itself was absolutely immaculate, 51-plate with only 22'000miles on it.

Before I start doing any mods though, I want to check whether the pedal-box work has been done, as there was no documents with the car to suggest it had.

Good idea (the pedal box). If it has been done, there will be a record on VW's database - AFAIK you can go into your nearest VW dealership and give them the registration number etc, and they'll be able to look it up and see if it's been done?

Shame the wheels are corroded, but its the same story for nearly all of us it seems, mine are just as bad :(

With the corroded alloys can you not get anything done about them under warranty, or make a fuss as your buying the car?

I've heard that some GTi owners have had their alloys replaced under the original manufacturer's 3-year warranty if they've had the car from new or nearly new. I myself had a 12-month warranty from the local VW dealership after buying used, but there was no scope for replacing the alloys or having them refurbed by the dealer because I only found out that it wasn't just my wheels when I found out about UK-P.net! I thought it must have been down to the previous owner kerbing them and not looking after them

Of course you can definitely make a fuss about them when you buy the car and use it to negotiate some money off, as a full professional refurbishment of a split-rim BBS alloy can be anything between £50-80 per alloy depending on what you want and where you go. Its much cheaper to just have the rim sorted out as this doesn't involve splitting the rim, so maybe £30-40 per alloy wheel.

As an example, I'm planning on having mine split, stripped down and refurbed in hi-power silver with a diamond cut rim, and this will be approximately £75 per alloy, which is £300 for all four - so thats quite a bargaining chip in a used car sale!

Yeah I pointed the corroded rims out to the guy (used car dealer), so when we're negotiating I had him knock £250 off the price. Considering he'd already offered me £3250 for the 1.0E, which is about £500 above book price, I felt there wasnt much good in pushing him further.

I'll get them refurbed and either sell them or the Superleggera's on at some point in the future. Though the BBS's have literally just had a new set of Dunlop Sports fitted.

I'll deal with it in the future; I'm just more excited about getting it at the minute :D
