i think i must have got a bit of a bargain then coz i paid £6800 for my 2000 GTi with 29,000 on the clock and this was March '04 !

the ones on ebay dont seem to go for much more that £5,500 - 6,000, not checked the trader though...

Well I think I got the opposite to you IceyPolo!

I bought mine from a VW dealer August 2003, it's a 2000 W reg, black, 3 dr with 25K on the clock for £8000! I think you just need to shop around and think about what factors are major priorities when purchasing a car, for example low mileage if you are expecting to do quite a few miles in it, warranty (which was the major factor for me), full VW service history etc etc.

I recently had a butchers at the Parkers Car Guide to see how much my car is worth (or depreciated!) and IIRC prices for a similar car to mine was around the high £5,000 figures...

Im not selling my black beauty but how much would you say mine would be worth... its a 2000 on W plate, 30k miles, leather interior, full VW history? Just for an idea.. was looking at a Clio 182 but the sales guy didnt tempt me by offering £5k for mine (this was just before xmas). Paid £8k originally back in August 2003 with 19k on the clock.

Thanks

I bought my Gti last November and it cost me £5600 from a non-VW dealer. It's a 3dr X plate with 40K, sunroof, side airbags but no climate control or 6 disc changer (bought in-dash version for £200 off ebay anyway). I have heard that pre 2001, VW had not standardised the spec and hence there are loads of differing versions out there. Is this correct?

Anyway, she's in mint condition and I prefer sunroofs to AC so I was well happy. Plus the wheels are in great nick, which is often a problem. VW actually offered me 5K for it as a trade in a couple of weeks back when I asked.......

I bought mine from a VW dealer August 2003, it's a 2000 W reg, black, 3 dr with 51K on the clock for £7499! Heh. Now has 60k 18 months later on. There was an identical car there at the same time except it had leather trim, otherwise same condition spec and mileage. It was an extra grand!

Correct! The 2000-model cars are known as pre-alignment, I met with a fellow VAG owner whose wife has a red 2000 Polo GTi, and this too was pre-alignment, had a different spec from mine! Things that can change include factory-fitted sunroof, A/C or Climate, even the colour of the seatbelts might be different!

I reckon that most examples at the moment are fetching about £7000, give or take £500. Depends where you buy from and how hard you haggle

I have checked VW used car locator and they are on that at around £7,000 - £7,500. We got ours about year and half ago paid £7,500 then, I took mine into Subaru dealer to price part exchange for Subaru STi, quoted me between £5,700 on 51 reg car, or £7,000 against new car. Dont know if this helps you, as stated above depends on condition etc, ours had low mileage and bigger alloys etc. :D

The second car, the 2001 red 5-door, thats quite a rare beast! Never seen a 5-door red one before and if its a 51-plate its all the rarer :) plus... 3100 miles? How little mileage?
