jus got a kenwood headunit (kg-5031 i think??) rated peak 4x50W. would it be worth replacin the door 6.5'' speaker for an after market version or will it not sound any better????????
if its worth it, are there any good (preferably cheap- im a student!!!) ones about?????????
At first i was running the standard speakers off my head unit and they arnt that bad.
I bought some after market components and amped them i think thats what most ppl do and they did sound better.
If there is someone on the forum who is running after market componets off there headunit with out amping them im sure someone will let you know how they sound
basically, I had some nice Alpine Type R 176A's for a while, about 100 nuggets and running off an Alpine headunit
they were good - a LOT better than the standard ones.
however, that was with a 60W Alpine unit, and they're very powerful compared to a lot of other HU's, they have their own heatsink, (and fan?) and a separate power cable. saying that tho, I sold them to my neighbour who's running them off another HU and they're pretty good still!
most people reckon that you won't get better than the standard ones until you spend at least 100 quid. the Alpine's retail at 130 but some places do em for 100.
I would spend about 100 quid on some comps, and run them off your HU. You might not get any more bass, but the SQ will be streets ahead.
the reason for no more bass is because the factory speakers have a very high sensitivity - so a low power unti will give a lot of bass out of a surprisingly poo speaker!
get a good opinion of the comps you buy - i can easily see you spending hard earned on a speaker that needs a LOT of power, and therefore you will get worse results. if you see a components you like post it up and i'm sure someone can tell you if it's a power sapper.
The Genesis comps are very lightweight - I think they might be good off a HU. The Alpine ones work well too.
Changing the front's for components will definately make a difference, and running them off the head unit will be fine. I've just changed mine for a set of Infinity's and will be running them off a 4x60w Alpine V-Drive HU.
If you can though, i'd amp them. Then they will really sound the game.
where abouts did u mount ure 6x9's. cos my sis(who had the car before me) had the car broken into and sub and head unit knicked by some thieving w*nke*s..
cheers
Oh and to answer your question. Those sony's would sound fine in the front. I don't know if the standard fitment on the 6N is components in the front but if they are then the vocals may appear a little low down compared to what your used to. If not then they will be spot on.
