New Car Decisions

Post by pettsy »

Been wanting to sell my Gt for a while now, and am now on the lookout for a new car.

The problem i've got is what car to go for next. Ideally there would be a bit more room than in a mk3 polo,Doesn't need to be ecconomical but don't really want something that'll go down to low mpg figures when driven hard.Price is an issue, and it would be easier for me to get the £ for a newer car than say a g40. Also trying to keep it in the VAG group 8)

Current Ideas....

G40 - Propper Wolf in sheeps clothing but would be going to an older (albeit quicker)car from my gt

Mk4 Golf 20Vt - Pretty quick even if they are a big heavy car. Mate is selling his T reg one soon and has offered it to me cheap. Downside is that it would need a fair bit of £ spending to get decent performance and handling.

anyone got any ideas/advice?

EDITED:Removed 6N2 TDI

apparently the 1.4 TDI (3cyl) is underestimated by VW
should push around 90hp rather than 75,

with chips avaliable, ur looking at 100hp+ and lots of torque :D

won't the golf have a bit of a drinking problem though, when you welly it? 5 cylinder engine and heavier body etc.....

i'd be split somewhere between the g40 and the tdi...... all comes down to which one "feels" right - though i suspect the derver will become ever cheaper to run in comparison to the G.

the golf 20v is a 4 cylinder, just 5 rather than 4 valves per cylinder....the Tdi would be nice when chipped but the g40 would still be a fair bit quicker even standard? If I was looking for fun i'd take the g40, though if you've got a alot of money to spend like you say the 20vT could be a near 200bhp and nice and refined with it

I'd be torn between the G40 and the Golf myself.. depends whether you want to sacrifice practicality for fun and vice versa really. I wouldn't not buy a G40 simply because it would be older than your current car, age doesn't matter as long as it's in good condition.

As i will be borrowing some of the £ off my parents, they just see it as another polo like mine, and won't lend me the £ to get a car more or less the same and older!

try impressing on them how it would be similar to a GTi, 205 turbo, Xri, etc?

ok, outside of the power thing (20vt etc) - how about power to weight, and handling?
