1 megapix --- that's 1152x864 or 1280x960, right? That's superbonzoriffic so far as i'm concerned - just tasty for a windows wallpaper (or an A4 print, if your eyes are forgiving.... it's about 108-120dpi).... have to give it a slight tweak but nothing that will show.
At such a distance 6mp probably wouldn't be much help anyway - I doubt many consumer cameras have the macro ability to make such zoom seem sharp. Or do you have a full ring-lens and tripod outfit?
(i'm just getting used to 5mp instead of 2, myself - it's amazing what extra detail is brought out by a 1.62x improvement of rez in each direction. It's arguably better than most high street 35mm film.... and gives 240dpi at A4, 160 at A3 (or 30 and 20 JPG blocks per inch..), equalling true, frameable "wow" factor)
I do have a tripod, but those pics were taken hand held... I had the pulleys out in my shed and all I had to light them was a desk lamp... Not all that pro really..
I've got a FujiFilm S7000 which is capable of 12mp. The camera has macro and super macro mode.
