Squeakiness

Sorry for the vagueness here, but has anyone else experienced squeaks or rattles in the boot area when going over bumps? I'm pretty sure it ain't the suspension, sounds like the boot is squeaking against the boot seal, but I can't emulate the sound by bouncing the car while it's still, and the boot seems nice and tight.

Anyone got any ideas?

EDIT: It's a '94 1.3 CL squareback, replaced the rear shocks 2 months ago, the springs WEREN'T replaced at the same time though.

It could be the parcel shelf support thingys ( the 2 black plastic bits wif speaker holes that run up either side of the parcel shelf) If some of the screws r missing from this it can make a sort of squeeking noise?! Apart from that im stumpd. HTH

My parcel shelf squeeks on the side supports... Proper annoying.

My dash squeeks, my seats squeek, the windows are noisy, there are various other rattles and creaks that come from under the car/in the car/from the dash/from the boot...

I'm gonna take everything out the car and then refit it all piece by peice with a can of expanding foam and a roll of duct tape, and after each bit is put back go for a drive to see if it rattles.

Makes me want a new car at times. Went out in a mates 206 GTI180 the other night and it's silent inside..

I will get all the rattles sorted one day...

I would agree with robz on this, about it being the parcel shelf supports. My Coupe squeaks and rattles from that area going over bumps, or sometimes just when the car is idling. Its an annoyance!

yeh i thought it was this as my old GT (RIP) had this problem. Ive not driven my new 1 yet but no doubt itl b the same.

its all part of the fun having an older car. when i had ma coureasy car last month it felt so strange not havin the bumps & squueks.

Dash is easy to sort, rear supports can be more trial end error. It's another job for me to sort on the runabout.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I thought it was just my car that squeaks, but since everyone's does I guess that's good news. I get rattles from under the car too dub, everything seems to be squeaking against everything else.

Oh well, I haven't got the cash to fix it, and it's fine on level roads, just a shame i live in a village with such bad roads.

I don't know about mk3's, but apparently mk2's almost always had a squeaky boot from new..
I've found four sources of squeaks in my boot:
Parcel shelf hangers as everyone else said. A bit of WD40 on the end of the hanger from time to time works wonders.
Loose boot catch - the plastic bit on the boot catch which pads out the pin to hold it firmly tends to crack and fall off, makes it all a bit squeaky. Wrap electrical tape around the pin a few times to hold it a bit firmer, but be careful that you don't put too much on as the catch won't close if the pin's too big.
Pneumatic lifters - WD40 again, on the base of the shaft when the boot's fully open then close and open the boot a couple of times and oil it again.
Spare wheel - biggest source of squeaks of the lot. Make sure your jack is in the right place under it so that the wheel sits firmly against the bottom of the boot well, then tighten the nut down very firmly on it so that the tyre can't move around and squeak.

I've spent months removing all the squeaks and rattles from my car, but it still throws up a new one from time to time just to catch me out. Latest ones seem to be coming from the timing belt cover (missing two bolts), the distributor (knackered) and the suspension (search me...

), so that's a nice little job for me when I actually have some time..

The tailgate itself often squeaks.
There are two rubber stops on the tailgate that act as packing when the tailgate is closed. You can unwind these so that they come out further and thus give a tighter fit when it's closed.
