Hey everyone, need some help! Just got myself some polo gti wheels. I was after kyalami wheels at first, like on the SE. Wasn't too keen on the gti ones. But they grew on me, and they look good now they're fitted.
Went down to Montys Wheels and Tyres. By the way i would really reccomend this place to you. They specialise in OE Wheels for VW, Audi Mercedees etc. Theyre a nice little family business, who don't talk any bullsh*t. Good prices and Will deliver for free.
Anyways they fitted the wheels for me and they seemed ok. But i've noticed that between the speeds of about 55 and 75 i get quite a lot of vibration in my steering wheel. The wierd thing is when you get to about 80 it seems to be fine.
Unfortunately i had to be somewhere so i didn't have time to go back to the shop (which is a long way from where i live). I rang the guy up and he said that he wasn't sure why i was having problems but it sounded like the balancing was out. He assured me that they had all been balanced correctly that same day. He said that if i took them to charlie browns and get them checked out he'd pick up the bill if they needed rebalancing.
Anyways i got them all checked and sure enough the balancing is fine. But i still get the same problem!! Has anyone got any ideas.
its totally standard, not lowered. Wheels are brand new and its got brand new falken (made by dunlop) tyres. Its all definately tightened. Saying that, you know those metal cap thingys that fit on the end of your rear axel, i managed to bend that out of shape a bit. but the wheel still went on ok.
Good point!, most garages i go to always say, "come back here in 300 miles or so and i'll re-balance them for you"
so i would suggest you go down that road and see if that solves the problem.
good luck

I think its definately balancing, cos it has got all the symtoms. It doesn't seem to be very noticeable now, was very noticable on the motorway at first.
It couldn't be anything else like tracking could it?
i always have my tracking done everytime i get new tyres because it tends to change after a certain amount of time (probably the suspension isn't helping much being so bumpy)
only notice it when the tyre wear becomes un-even over a longer period of time than you are experiencing.
