MK5 GTi --> MK4 16v front splitter?

Post by mk4ads »

Hey,

Just wondering if anyone knows what parts u need to chop off on the MK5 GTi splitter to allow it to fit to the MK4 16v front bumper, I have the splitter and it very nearly fits but I'm a but jubious about cutting it up.

Any help greatly appreciated, and if you can supply pics its worth a pint! :D

Thanks

It's a little too short, but It's hard to notice under my car's bra.

I chopped some (not all) of the clips off, then fastened the lip to the bumper with short self-tapping screws. It takes a while, but it's worth it. I took the bumper off completely to make life easier.

Having said that, the lip scrapes so much now that I'm considering refitting the original lip.

I had wondered if it was a little short but I just couldnt get it central It would be handy to know which clips were taken off but I guess trial and error is the way to go :)

As for the splitter scrapeing too much lol, that's when you know you have a low car :D

Thanks for you'r help!

I managed to get a 1.4CL front valance onto the 16v rear bumper..... and it's miles out at the beginning!

like speedlaw, I cut out the lip that strengthens the corners of the splitter, then bolted it to the rear bumper and cut it to length. you should be able to do the same thing on the front!

Yes we will Ben :D

I just banged the car's belly (the part under the seats) on the floor, drove out of a car wash center. Anyway. I didn't notice any fuel or brake fluid leaking so it's fine.

here's what you were after btw. Not sure how the 'bonnet only' version attaches, but it's probably with some elastic bands and hooks.

Cool

Taking the bumper off is a bit of a chore, but at least you can see what you're doing.
