What to service?

Post by monkey_boy »

Hi All,

My 1.4TDI is long overdue for a service, its just hit 38,000 and the inspection light is flashing like mad!

Just want to check a few things...... im still learning about cars so be nice  what do i need to change, a friend of a firend is going to fit everything for me 'on the side' ;) and just charge labour and get my log book stamped by his garage aslong as i get all the parts. I don't want to buy any old crap but nothing too fancy. So.....

Air Filter
Oil Filter
Oil....... I was told I have to get fully synthetic oil becuase my diesel is a PD version so don't by crap cheap oil??

what else could i change/check for piece of mind?

im getitng the wiper blades changed fornt and back aswell cos the orginal ones are totlay sh*t!

thanks for any help.

It always surprises me why some of y'all are so eager to waste your money on jobs , you can do by yourself...

I always service my car myself...

My car get oil and filter changes for fun (under 3000 miles)....

anyway this is what i do every 3000 miles (unless stated)

1. change oil and oil filter (genuine VAG stuff only)
2. Change air and pollen filter
3. Clean the throttle body with carb cleaner
4. Change the spark plugs (every 5-10k miles)
5.check braking system and replace any worn parts
6. get the engine tuned up

after this my cars back on point.... and it's a good feeling knowing that i have saved 150+ pounds

the only thing i pay for is an engine tune up, but this cost no more than 20 pounds.....

peeps stop wasting money and get yourself a manual.... its all there

and for the dude who payed over 200 for the suspension change.... man you got ripped off...
