What to service?
As a buyer it's nice to hear that, but it doesn't really mean anything...polosilver wrote:Because i can say to Mrs/Mr buyer, Hi i have full VW service history from new and watch there face light up...

I may not send my car to a VW garage every 10K to get hustled out of s**t I could be doing myself... but when I service my car (with nothing but genuine stuff)... I keep all receipts for everything bought, and a pic of the mileage is taken (as proof) of having the job done
So in the end we both a "FSH" but think of the money that I've saved....
Plus when you service your car yourself... you know for sure that this has been done.... but what guarantee do you have that your local garage has done it?

Thing is, if u service your car and something goes wrong u dont really have a foot to stand on, but if they do it then 2 mins later ur airbag goes off at 90mph u can sue the fuckers. Peice of mind is worth that little extra in my opinion... my dad is a fully trained mechanic and he still sends his Audi to be serviced at Audi.
We get trade prices for stuff because my dad rents a house to the manager of our local dealership so they good pals. Plus we have bought 5 cars from there.

I use Quantum Silver Oil... This is the oil that VW/Audi recommend...toXXin wrote:Don't be putting **** oil in it.
Make sure it meets the requirements for the PD engine.
I'd hate to see your cheap service cost you an engine.
Everyone I know loves this oil... but tbh I have been using it for a little while now and it doesn't seem all that special
Maybe i'm expecting to much
VW charge about 14 pounds for it (+VAT)
GSF charge about 11 pounds for it (+VAT)

Thanks for all the replies.....
i got a quote from VW and it was £130, they can go and ***** up their bum.
to be honest a FSH does not bother me as I just bought a house and the car is going to last me until it's on it's last legs which should be sometime in 2057!!
I have a few little questions though....
1: How does the car reset itself after it's serviced?, ie how does the 'INSPECTION' warning stop flashing just above the mileage? I guess the computer knows when the oil filter/oil's been changed?
2: where is the pollen filter?
I've looked into oil and castrol fully synthetic looks the business, my mate who is going to do the car told me to get some decent oil as it will increase the life of the car and performance.
anyway cheers!
ps: has anyone ever got a spare key done aswell, VW quoted me £51 for the key then another £50 quid for labour/programming the key!!!!

get yourself a haynes manuel which will show you how you do it...
haynes manual again...monkey_boy wrote:2: where is the pollen filter?
it should be located in front of the windscreen

quality oil + frequent changes will increase the life of the engine + decrease the chances of mechanical problems
VW/Audi recommend that you use their oil (Quantum Silver/Gold)... but i guess Castrol GTX is cool
anyway like i said before you can maintain a FSH without sending your car to the dealer to get ripped off.... Just keep all reciepts for everything that you buy for the car, and take pics or make a note of the mileage everytime you do a service.....
but i recommend that you pay for your car to get tuned up regulary (because you cant do it yourself)...
also when your cambelt / water pump needs changing (60,000m) you should send it to the dealer or an independant VW specialist....
