NEWB.....panels 'n' styling Q's

Post by J1MMY »

hi folks... nice forum 8)

i'm trying to find some different styling for the polo saloon while trying to keep it oem, so i figured i'd do a "parts bin special" and use what is available from the seat stables....but what model ibiza shouyld i be looking for? and will cordoba parts fit? specifically thinking about front bumpers, grilles, headlights etc for now.

thanks in advance guys :D ('n' gals :?: )

Hi Jimmy and welcome to the site.

We don't see many saloon owners around here so it's always good to hear there are still some enthusiasts out there. I reckon the saloon can be made into something special, but the trick is absolute minimalism.

As anyone that's been to Austria recently can tell you, it brakes down into three things.

1. Drop. You want airride or coilovers to lower it, a lot. Any car looks good lowered and the saloon can use any help it can get. So make it low.

2. Wheels. Forget bodykits, spoilers, stickers, installs, leather trims, etc etc. Put all of that money in wheels. You'll be happy you did. It's no good spending thousands on paint or bodykits when you still have the same Halfords wheels your neighbour has. Find the rarest, most exclusive wheels you can afford to buy. It's a good idea to look into the VAG parts bin, there are some amazing Audi wheels that could be either redrilled or fitted with adapters. You'll also want to get them chromed or polished. Make them one-offs, have them gold plated or do something to them that no-one else has done.

3. Take everything off the car you don't need. This includes locks (you'll need remote locking), boot handles, logos, antennas, stickers, spoilers, etc. Then smooth it all out, get rid of lines, holes and all of the stuff you deleted earlier. Paint the car in an OEM tint, preferably something you don't see very often. Audi TT colors are nice.

That's it. Don't add, subtract. Instead of replacing the front bumper with an Ibiza one, fill the holes instead. Get rear door handles and place them up front, get rid of the mudflaps and door strips. Find those rare South America-only tail lights in red and white. That's what I'd do to it.

To answer your original question, any parts from the 6K lineup should fit, grosso modo. That includes the 1996 model Ibiza and Cordoba - the cars that share the dashbord with your car.

HTH :)

yikes! thanks for the helpful replies fellas...though in hindsight i should've made myself clearer  i actually have a '98 caddy van, but whenever i ask questions about such i usually draw a blank . as im sure you are all aware the caddy van was shares much with the polo saloon, its front end in particular. i certainly havent meant to be deceptive and speedlaw - you have certainly given me much food for thought! 8) and thanks for the seat info :D
