Respraying

Hi,

would it be much of a mission to have my car reprayed. There are some areas of rust and i hope to remove them whilst respraying.

The job can be done at my old man's work place - a big spray booth there so thats not too much of a problem.

What would you recommend doing?

If you're respraying the whole car smooth the rear quarter to boot panel lines, smooth over the aerial, side repeaters and door handles!! should be enough to keep you busy!!

Nice conversion you made for your clocks.. Looks great. anyways, you said smooth over the aerial. You mean removing it compleatly ? have you seen any polos with this? sounds interesting.

yeah mine has it, welded plate underneath and smooth over on top, then paint. But welder needs to be tack welded? and prob mig ot tig, not a clue about welders!!

otherwise the heat will warp the roof!! Same with any panel I suppose but roof would be a pain to fix and a lot more noticable!!

I think we need a guide on how to do those red/blue conversions for the dash.

Alot of ppl are interested - including me.

I dont care if it's a mission....

Tell us how in a handy guide.

As for the spray....

I think i'm going to touch up the areas that have rust then spray the front bumber etc...

Can't divulge my secrets!!

Basically it is quite a bit more complicated than the one colour dash and would recommend doing that unless you want to cut out half the inside of your clocks!!

I used clock parts from other cars that I got in teh scrappy so parts are really the problem and up the cost, I've got 7 or 8 sets of clocks from various vw's in my room all in pieces!!

If I have time I'll try to write out a how to with some pics that I took when doing it, altho not very detailed pics I might add!!!

When i see people spending this much time on there 6N's it makes me think... why dont you just buy a 6N2

. All people seem to want to do is get it to look as much like a 6N2 as they can, roof rails, lights, dash, handbreak cover, seats, bumpers. Would be alot cheaper to buy a 6N2, i know because its what i did.

Before you say, why didnt you buy a 9N... i could have but i dont like em personally, i choose the 6N2 outta looks not cost, i had enough cash to get the 9N but think 6N/6N2 are the best polo shapes. (although i do like the 9N with votex kit, but thats all)

damm - not just a change of light bulb.

I'm off the the scrappy 2moro to see if i can get hold of a clock. then i'll give it a go and wack that one in my car.

We are not modding our car, actually lemme rephrase that... I am not modding my car in the hope to make it look like a MK5....

The whole point of modding, is to become an individual, and not to have an identical ride to your next-door neighbor.... or the guy down the street.

At the end of the day if the lights on the dash were originally blue with red needles.... peeps would want to change them to green with white needles, because they could and it would make them an individual....

The light conversion is easy... if you have a pre 98 MK4 then all you have to do is replace bulbs and not LED's

Post 98 MK4's need about 25-30 LED's to be soldered in...

at the end of the day it's just a matter of patience... and thereâ€™s no secret to it... I have posted the link on how to do it above...
