very harsh vibrating at 50mph+ help!

Post by adz »

wondering if any one can advise

I had a new clutch fitted
got the car from the garage drove home and everytime i go over 50 mph it vibrates the steering wheel alot when it gets to about 65-70 passenger seats vibrate little and steering wheel even more

the garage has said this is due to me not having spacers on my 15" alloys, but it wasnt doing this before i had the clutch fixed
the garage wont do anythink, unless i buy spacers which i cant find

i just dont get it is there anything they could do wrong when doing the clutch?

i have mark 4 1996
with Dezent H alloys

thing is there is no gap between car and wheels
the only space is the width off drive shaft is smaller than wheels

help

if any one knows where to buy spacers i would love to know where

many thanks in advance

adz :(

ps i thought the gf would like it but it just doesnt turn her on lol

Take it to another garage, ask their opinion

i had this exact same problem when mine was done. What it is, is the driveshafts have a funny shape seal on them, if the seal isnt aligned properly when put back together they dont seat the shaft to the box perfectly. Therefore causing vibration. A good idea is ask a garage to look at the driveshafts, check all the bolts and make sure there seated correctly. Mine were not seated correctly, so got them realigned now there perfect. If in doubt take it to VW and it'll cost ya £60 at the most but it'll be done proper

also if your driveshafts have balancer weights on that might be causing it

gave me about a month of headaches trying to sort it out on the mk3, when one got knocked off

had the wheels balanced about six times in different places lol

disclaimer: that might be all a load of balls, but its exactly what the fairly trustworthy bloke in the local garage told me after he fettled it.
