Will I break my key?

Post by migui_blu »

Hi all

I have an S-reg 6N. I'm looking to mod my current key to fit a switchblade. However I'm a little worried that by cutting it I won't be able to start the car once I'm finished and render it completely useless.

My car is fitted with an immobiliser, my dad told me an electronic chip is in the tip of the key, I'm not 100% how accurate that is.

If that is the case then I shouldn't be worried, however my novice opinion makes me think the chip is located at the top of the key, that black plastic circley bit as you can see in the picture. So chopping it I think would render it useless.

This is the current key/key fob arrangement I have with the car...

The scorpion key fob is what I use to unlock the car, I think...

...fukk it I'm a retard, have no idea what I'm talking about, can this be done. It's that black circley bit i'm stressin about. I've look all over the internet but no'one seems to have done it with my type of key.

Also, does anyone know if I can use the switchblades key lock/unlock function with my scorpion alarm?

Sorry for the essay, just wanted to make myself clear, if anyone could educate me I will love you for ever (figure of speech).

Cheers

Dont really understand what u want to do?

but the black circular part in the key that your talking about is the transmitter for the immobiliser, so by scrapping this part of tampering with it, u wont be able to start your car. All keys with this black part in them have to be codded to the specific vehicle. main dealer job.

hope it helps?

Key

Post by migui_blu »

Click on the link, hopefully that'll explain what I want to do.

http://www.pocketrocket.ca/switchblade_key.html

I thought as much, you wouldn't happen to know if the transponder actually need to be in contact with the metal of the key of it just needs the proximity. Cause I could take it our of the key and put it inside the switchblade housing.

Any ideas.... :D

Have a test.

Take the chip out of your old key and hold it near it. and try to start your car.

ok just went and tested a few things.

the chip has to be in it's little cradle.

it doesn't matter which way round you have it
you only need it to start the engine - once running the chip can be removed and car still runs fine.

i want to know how you can do this aswell. i imagine that the mk4 key has a similar chip inside it, would it be posible to replace it with my one?

Key

Post by migui_blu »

Cheers James

Any chance of a picture of what the chip looks like, I prefer not to do it in the dark. :?

I've found some things on the net, this might be relevant but I don't understand "foreign"...

I think I read on a previous forum "page 4" titled "Switchblade Key" that "metz" was offering to do the key at a price. I guess I'm asking for your experience in this matter. :D

And if anyone else has any previous experience with this type of key :D

Cheers so far

I had the common vw key just like james, with the little imobiliser ( that little black thingy)

I bought a VW switchblade key for 30 euros and did just like you can see here http://www.cleaned.be/faq.php?action=toonmeer&id=8

Just as long as the imobiliser is close to the ignition barrel when you put the key in the ignition it will work fine. The first time i placed the imobiliser 2cm away and it didn't worked. As you can see in the picture a little hole in the switchblade key and you're done.
to get you VW key to fit on the switchblade you will have do fiddle with it a little bit but it's very easy.

another site that has many pictures about that is http://www.ibizaclubpt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3563 ( in portuguese)

I have already managed to fit 3 keys to switchblade ones with those two guides. all working.

What i'm now trying to do is to fit my alarm into the switchblade key

Pedro that portuguese guide was f#cking awesome. Please let me know if you manage to fit your alarm to the switchblade.

WKD

Ok I've kinda managed to translate the portuguese by making sense of the pictures and the fact that I'm spanish. I've compiled a DIY thingy using the info from HERE and HERE. So the credit goes to both sources. I just had far too much time on my hands (not revising for exams) and was bothered to compile the two.

So if any one's interested, reply to the post and leave your email and i'll send you a word document as an attatchment with the details of the "How to".

Thanks James and Pedro for the help so far.

GOD THAT FEELS GOOD!!!!

Hi

James, sorry for not emailing the .pdf/.doc

I'm not at home at the moment, I should be there later on tonight.

Pedro, I haven't found anywhere online that hosts pdf files for free. So i'll send you what I've got as a word file, feel free to edit it in anyway (include the alarm if you can) and host it somehwere.

You said you know a webmaster who can get fobs? From where and how much?

Battery too big, could you not use the original vw battery in the key already?

Cheers
