yep, manual shows it to be a coin area, just chuck them in the middle

but its a silly place really, the one next to the drinks tray or where the cig lighter is would be a better place to use

the cig lighter area is better because it has a cover to conceal those few coppers that you do posess

had the same question for ages. even tried fitting a cd there in case it was for that

then i read that i was actually for coins. pretty tasteless if you ask me. basically i think they just wanted to put something there that comes off easily for easy access to the torx screws underneath. i just leave my mobile phone there while driving.
