This is the later type - I suspect from your description you have the early type

Huhu!

So do you know how to use a solder gun?
Cos when your Dials are from MotoMeter (you´ll discover it when you demount your dials...take it out of the dashboard...the back of the dialsbody must be white) then you can
use other small "SMD" (Surface Mounted Device) LED´s for the Illumination under the Displays, with a blue foil you can make the blue light from the LEDs more blue...darker blue if you want. If you want i can post some pics...in the last Years i converted more than a dozen Dials from this Type (MotoMeter) to blue/red.
So 4 LEDs for both Displays and 2 new resistors for those between the displays.
For the frontillumination i always took thin red foil which makes the Light from the frontlamps red...even on our german colourconcept Dials/clockfaces it shines brighter than on the normal black clockfaces.
So you have white clockfaces.....it will be the same....

OK, i loaded some pics up on my webspace, watch this:

This shows which LEDs has to get changed. These four and two small resistors...for the...hmm...normal/bright blue:

And here you see the difference, the left one is just converted with LEDs, the right one with LEDs and a Foil straight behind the Display.

The following are original mk4 16V Dails which i converted for a friend...he wants to sell them on ebay next time...or if somebody is interested....he wants 120uro for one Dials...or just swop the clockface against a british 16V together with the pointers...so please@ all 16V drivers, plz think about a swop of the clockfaces with these silver ones with Pointers :-) ....it´s free.....just swoping, thats all he wants.
So just the normal blue:

And this way it looks when a normal blue converted dials from the ColourConcept mk4 Polo is mounted and illuminated in the Polo:

And so it looks when you take a foil behind the displays....here with a black/normal clockface.......

Yeah, thats all...but only if you have a MotoMeter Dials...with the white Body.....if you have a VDO Dials you have real little lamps and no LEDs behind the Displays...then ...i dunno what to do...for that case there are enough DIY´s in the whole www.

And the Frontillumination......my mates always likes it this way in red...because to do that just with blue foil in front of the frontilluminationlights would make the light shine not blue...it would be green......so if you want that also in blue jou have to take also your solder gun and a dozen big blue LEDs and swop them against the two little lamps...so the red foil is the easy way which you always can change back into original standard.

Thats all.

Cheers
