As you said it was a bit of a dodgy build, was wondering what DSG box they put in yours. The original DQ200 one with the separate D and S mode, or the updated one with the D/S mode in the same selector position, with the option to flick up or down between the 2 modes? Are you finding erratic behaviour/noise around 1200rpm mostly?

I have the D/S in the same positon and u just push back to swap modes but yeah around 1200 and 2000 rpm is a bit strange sometimes and what gear gets chosen. A lot of the time the gearbox chooses 2nd when it really needs to be in 1st as theres no power if u want to nip out at a junction quickly if the rpm is around 1200 to 1500. That's when I use the paddles to manually put the box into 1st. It is a little frustrating at times.

Quick update on my car - it has been back in at the garage as the CMS/Discover Nav is in need of getting replaced by a new unit due to it rebooting and shutting itself down intermittently. They never had the part in stock last time it was in the garage sadly but they did fix the issue with the Sat Nav continually being stuck in Dresden/Germany. Anyway i was told this morning while checking the car in that there is a recall due on on these new BGT Polo's for an ECU software update!

Has anyone heard anymore about this recall? I'll ask the mechanic later on when i pick up the car if he knows anything about the update and what it does to the engine management system.

Mine (DSG) was a bit jerky on take off for the first hundred or so miles then it smoothed out nicely. Could be bedding in but more likely that my feet have tuned into the cars natural rhythm. ACT pops in and out at appropriate times and is unnoticeable in action, no vibrations at any revs. Stop start is very unobtrusive, I never turn it off and never have any glitches.

I looked into reliability and was told, not by VW salesmen, that the reliability issues that hit DSG cars was limited to the old six speed box. I can't think of any reason why I'd opt for the manual but it's a matter of personal preference, horses for courses as they say.

I had the opportunity, just for a bit of fun to have a short rolling road session. Out of the box the indicated flywheel bhp figure was 162.5 bhp, rather more than the advertised 150 and a bit of a surprise. To answer the inevitable question it was a BSI certified dynometer, not a Lego one from my Christmas stocking.

Good figures on the dyno.
I've seen a couple of 150 BGT on the dyno.
All around 160hp+/- , so seems healthy.

Heres a curve from a danish tuner, before and after remap.

Personally i'll go for the bsr remap.
It seems a bit more realistic when the car should last quite some years for me.
