polo 1.0l help wont start

Post by STONEY »

Hi newbe to the forums (only reg yesterday) and my car wont start this morning.First of all i thought it was out of petrol (showing 1/2 a tank) so i put a gallon in but still it would not start.I have checked the fuel lines and there is no fuel coming through and it is also making a buzzing noise from the black box next to the choke flap.

just checkin to see if anyone has any ideas what the problem could be before i take it to vw tomorrow

Hi and welcome to UKP.

If there's no fuel coming through the lines I'm guessing you (a) need a new fuel pump, or (b) there's no power going to the pump, which could be caused by a faulty fuse or a break in the cable somewhere.

Never had this myself but it was the first thing that came to mind - hope it helps.

I believe the pump is located near the tank (or perhaps even IN the tank, not sure) and there is in fact a relay + fuse that controls the pump. I don't have my Haynes here so I can't really be specific unfortunately. (sorry!)

fuel pump relay is behind the main fuses in the fuse box. should b a white band thingy in front of the relays with a screw either side that has 2 come off before u get to the relays.Thats how it is in my car anyway !!

BTW: U need a torx screwdriver to unscrew the band thingy !
