I'm just glad it's a Polo and not the LC - that takes 75 litres of Optimax everytime it rolls onto a petrol station forcourt.....

going to run my polo well into its reserve going to work and back tomorrow and then see how much it can handle

surely if there is more petrol in the car then its heavy then that well get a higher petrol consumption

also whats the optimax all about ??

cheers

Normal Unleaded 95 RON (octane rating)

Super unleaded 97 RON (as above)

Optimax 98.5 RON an the Lotus loves it as it was designed to run on 98 (old super unleaded)

Unless your car has knock sensors and an auto advance linked to the knock sensors lack of activity 97 Optimax and BP ultimate are a waste of time.....

Haven't managed to get into a polo ECU yet to pull the maps apart but when I do I can determine if the car will benefit from premium fuel - judging by the coments on this forum about optimax it appears it does

Optimax rocks 8) *

Basically Optimax is a more refined fuel. Your average unleaded fuel is 95RON, but Optimax is more like 98RON, and is more refrined, efficient and cleaner burning. In the real world this means your enigne runs quieter, is more responsive and you get better MPG. Costs about 4-5 pence extra per litre roughly than normal unleaded.

Personally I use BP Ultimate, simply because there isn't a Shell garage in my town. Both are equally good :)

*or BP ultimate also rocks if you have no Shell garages in your area, like me!

I get around 35 quid of petrol to a full tank. but cost will depend on each area as well i think. Might have to try bp Ultimate or Shell Optimax, i know shell optimax is about 82.9 a litre.

Shell tends to be cheaper... with BP being the most expensive I've noticed. Do you get the full effect of Optimax from your Polo? I only have a 1.4 8Ver... so it seems abit of a waste of money to me getting Optimax on my Polo. The best petrol I've used it Esso Premium (97RON) it gives a good response and also fuel consumption.... but costs quite a bit these days though.
I'd only use it if its significantly cheaper than Optimax and just abit higher than 95RON.

Do you guys fill up to the max? I've felt that my car feels too heavy filling it up fully... so nowadays I judge how much space I have left... and try to put in like £20-23 worth... JUST under full tank... but feels lighter.
