I *am* someone (apparently)

Post by dxg »

Woot! 8)

Just thought I'd share this...

I can't explain the whys or the hows (because I don't know them), but I've just received an invitation to be in Who's Who (!!)

All of this is a complete bolt out of the blue - but welcome. Someone somewhere must have picked up on my work...

Haven't got a clue what I've done to be nominated, but - hey - gift horse and all that.

Pretty impressive letter, too. Contains stuff like "I congratulate you on the achievements that have brought your name to attention of our editorial committee."

Now, should I mention uk-polos in my bio? I'm sure that's what they(or their computers) must have picked up on...

Deek

Congrats! I've always wondered how one gets into a publication like that.

Does it say anything else?

I really wish I knew!!! It makes writing the response a bit difficult as I don't know what caused them to contact me... I'm an academic, so I guess it's something to do with my work. I've been getting a good few citations recently (all due to one paper), but I'm not really that well published...

Bascially, the letter was "OK, so we've heard about you. Now tell us who you *really* are and we'll think about including you..."

I've been reading a few entries in the Times today, and if existing entries can list "messing around in boats and cars" as their recreations, then I'm sure I can angle a mention of uk-polos and "advocate of the VW modification community" (*) in there!

Deek.

* Can you tell I've been thinking about this a bit...

Jennifer Aniston's entry:

Or The Times' cherry-picked entries:

Now, there's over a million people in the database, so there's PEOPLE and then there's people.

What academicky things do you do then?

/just in case i've had to use one of your papers in uni reports.. ;)

even if you're one of the people, one million out of seven billion still puts you in a "i'm 1 in 7000!" bragging position :D

Value, or it's perception and "measurement." Bascially looking at the relationships that people form with the built environment (both existing and yet to be built) and helping them to understand and express their expectations. All linked back into design processes so that industry can be engaged and "the competitiveness of UK Plc" improved (mandatory funding requirement). That sort of thing.

This is one of my papers that got a fair amount of attention, although there's much more developed stuff to now be said (if only my boss would give me the time to actually *write* the things...):
http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/s ... 5.victoria

Submitted the application tonight. Listed affiliation with the VW enthusiast community and uk-polos under avocations.

If I do make it through, I'll try to get hold of the entry and see if we all make it into press...
